An End To Freezing Condensate Pipes

During December we had an unprecedented amount of condensate pipe blockages due to the severe weather conditions. Some of our engineers saw temperatures of minus 18 degrees and as a consequence the volume of call outs was at an all time high. During the same period in 2009 we attended a total of 6 condensate blockages, in 1 day alone during December 2010 we attended 32 separate blockages to customers in Hull and the surrounding areas.

When the condensation discharge pipe freeze's the condensate discharge water backs up into the boiler and will either cut out the boiler or in the worst cases water will leak into the boilers casing and damage electronic circuits making them dangerous.

With winters looking set to get worse and the increase in condensing boiler installations we are now sourcing ways of preventing the same occurrences next year.

Aqua Shield recommend fitting a condensate tracer kit. A heating element is run along the entire length of any external condensate pipes and is automatically activated at minus 5 degrees by an integral thermostat, warming the condensate pipe, helping to keep condensate flowing and preventing freezing,
